WITE5 // What's In The Egg ? - 5

Another snake ! 🐍 I wanted to do a Macoui, the long imaginary serpent that follows a boat as soon as it’s named and becomes its wake/spirit. If you want to rename your boat, there’s a whole ritual you have to follow to kill the Macoui linked to the old name, then give birth to a new one… I get the feeling this isn’t well known at all, more like a local bit of maritime folklore/tradition. Do you have similar legends where you’re from? Some super obscure thing that’s specific to your corner of the world, but that you think is pretty cool ? 😁

Well, iridescence is really hard 😭 I think even after all these drawings, I still haven’t fully grasped the technique to get that effect right... Water was a nightmare too 😅 It took me a long time to find the right shading ! Natural elements are so chaotic, yet they follow an underlying logic, and that can be really hard to grasp...

The final drawing doesn’t look like what I had in mind at first, but in the end I’m pretty happy with it because I tried to vary my techniques/styles using Photoshop’s lasso tool, and I learned a lot from that!

I think I put a bit too much energy into the bonus pieces XD I made them before the main drawing, I used them to get some practice with iridescence techniques and to get more comfortable with the lasso tool.
